Origin story of Paladin Agency

Present and future:

Journalism cannot exist without healthy newsrooms, even in this age.

Healthy newsrooms that represent their audiences produce meaningful and authentic news coverage.

Representative and diverse leadership brings diverse skills and knowledge to newsrooms, which is vital for resilience.

Paladin Agency was born out of a series of conversations between a handful of international industry leaders in April 2021.

Our mission with Paladin Agency is to reinforce newsrooms with our pan-European team of experienced consultants and trainers, each of them changemakers in an exciting area of journalism. Paladin is run by a Core Circle of consultants and trainers who are supported by the Founders Circle of advisors and ambassadors for Paladin Agency.

Past:

Paladin Agency is the mother company of both Vileine Magazine (2015-2018) and Vileine Academy (2018-current), respectively the largest feminist journalism platform in Europe and the first investigative journalism training programme for underrepresented women. Both have brought dozens of new but now established talents into leading Dutch newsrooms and made underreported issues visible through technically innovative investigations that stirred up political debate and resulted in industry-wide coverage.

Building on the lessons we learned and adapting to a world in which journalism is under more pressure than ever, we believe representation and inclusion is the last thing to deprioritise in media right now. But sustainable solutions can only arise from a quality-based framework based on representation. Without representative information, sources and angles, journalism cannot and will not fulfil its core watchdog role. By using our previous experience working with newsrooms as strategy consultants, launching innovative investigative projects, and helping upcoming journalists to maximise their digital potential and empower themselves through online and in-person training, we aim to help them help you reinforce the newsroom.
